The party was founded October 26, 1991 at the constituent congress in Kiev as a partial successor to the Communist Party of the Communist Party. In the elections of the Verkhovna Rada in 1998, along with the SPU Selyans'kyi installment in the block "for the truth, for the people, for Ukraine!"
